Marriage, a thing of the past

Since Brian and I have been married we've found that we are an anomaly of sorts. Our apartment leasing office keeps referring me to as "Brian's girlfriend." To which Brian always responds, "Ashley is not my girlfriend. She is my wife. We are married." With much emphasis. Actually, a little too much emphasis ;) Our neighbors always seem surprised to find out that we are married. And today the UPS man delivered a package for Brian and asked me if my last name was Ramsey too (while I am standing in the doorway in my bathrobe with wet hair). I said yes and he explained that most of the time it's the girlfriend who signs and he has to make a note if it's a different last name.

I've found that there is a new expectation when two people live together. It's that they are "living together" and "trying it out."
